Recently, I travelled to Barcelona with my brother and our families. We rented an apartment that had one wired connection available to us. Both of us had laptops. So when one was finished emailing and uploading pictures, the other would start. CRAZY!!! In this day and age. What we really needed was the ability to have on laptop share its connection to the others. And also to our mobile phones.
This is where Connectify steps in. When Microsoft announced Windows 7, about a year ago, they said it would have Internet Sharing over WIFI natively built in. Well they did most of the work and then decided it wasn’t ready for release. Connectify bridges this gap and takes advantage of it. Connectify allows you to take your current Internet connection from a cable and share it over your WIFI card to anyone you want, whether its to their phone, laptop, Blackberry or iPhone.
At the minute, its free because its in beta trials. This is a good opportunity to see if it works for you. It is something I would use when providing PC support or setting up networks. I can quickly create a new network connection and do whatever I need to on it.
After a quick download, you run the installation file… (Click on the Connectify logo above for download page..) Then you name your Connection and choose a password. Make sure its a password that you don’t mind sharing with friends. In the drop-down box click on your Wireless adapter connection. And that’s it. On your devices, you search for WIFI hot-spots as normal and use the password to log in.
