We brought you news of the HTC Hero earlier this week. We’re happy to be the first blog to let you know the Hero is here and available from Meteor stores. I have confirmed that Carphone Warehouse still don’t have it yet. I will update you when that changes.
On the original story, commenter Richard pointed out it had a none smudge protection thing.. Well I looked into this and he his right. The white version has a polyurethane seal over it to protect it.
Pricing
Its from €99. Which I think is very reasonable. Its €129 on the €25 a month plan and drops on all other plans. Pay as you go is a whopping €399 in-store or €389 online. But i expected that. I have a feeling, it may go free during Xmas on bill. That’s just a hunch. I am eager to see Carphone’s deal, because this will include a trade-in value. Here is their full breakdown from Meteor’s Site| New phone number | Keeping current phone number | Moving from Meteor Pay As You Go to Bill Pay | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connect €25/20 | €159.99 | €129.99 | €159.99 |
| Connect €50/45 | €129.99 | €99.99 | €129.99 |
| Connect €65/60 | €129.99 | €99.99 | €129.99 |
| Max | €129.99 | €99.99 | €129.99 |
| Surf | €129.99 | €99.99 | €129.99 |
Make it your own
With its customizable interface, the HTC Hero allows you to make your phone just the way you want it. That means no more trawling through menus to find what you want. The HTC provides widgets that you can place on the home screen of your phone, giving you everything at a quick glance and making life that little bit easier.
Keeping up with friends
Nowadays our friends are everywhere – on text, on email and on numerous social networking sites. With the HTC Hero you don’t have to miss out on any of their updates. View all their work emails, personal emails and social networking updates in the one place.
Discover more
See web pages come alive on a full-featured mobile browser that displays Flash-based sites. You can create different screen arrangements that reflect different aspects of your life. Each screen is like having a separate phone for your work, play or travel life.
What is Android?
HTC Hero uses the Android operating system. This is an operating system developed by Google so any developer can create applications. Phones using the Android system are preloaded with Google. This system makes sure all your applications are linked and easy to use. It allows people with great ideas to create applications that can be easily shared or downloaded. It all helps in making your phone your own.

Already bought one last weekend, love the phone … albeit that the meteor sales people don’t have a clue about the pricing plans …
