And Tech N Life Has Moved To A New Home!

OKAY, honestly, that wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, a lot of websites made out that moving from one server type to another was very difficult.

I moved from an IIS Windows server to a Linux based server and did it in 4 steps.

I just have some last bits of tweaking to do and then its ready.

UPDATE

Thats all I can do for now. There a few bugs and missing images. Please let me know if you find any. I will fix them asap. Hopefully you find the site a little faster from here on in.

Tech N Life Closing Whilst Being Moved

The time has finally come to move to a steady host. By the time you read this on your RSS readers and emails, the blog will be offline and hopefully moved to a new host.

With 500+ visitors per day, my little home server cant hack it. Well, it can if I stopped downloading torrents, but thats another story. It has gotten so bad that to write even this post, took about 10 attempts to load the page.

Victim of its own success I guess…

Ok, I am back on track today after a small set back between me and my dental surgeon. . I have not been writing much this past week but I have been finishing some features on the site.

I want to let you know about a new feature that is in development and will hopefully be finished today. Either way, it is now useable by you and I am just going to tidy up the page.

You’ll see on the top menu, there is an option for Ask A Techie. This is how it works. You add a comment on that page and we will respond with an answer either in the comments or in a full blown article or guide. Completely free and unlimited. So have some fun, ask those questions you were to embarrassed to ask your IT guy.

You can ask anything from how do I turn on the the stupid computer? to how do I install a network?

This feature came from the amount of email Tech N Life gets with very specific questions, which we will always encourage.

Do you enjoy reading and talking about the latest gadgets and technology? Do you get excited at the slightest rumor of a new OS or handset coming to the market? Do you follow particular tech sites in case you miss the latest announcements? Would you like to write for an upcoming and coming tech blog? Well, if you said yes, then you are like me. And you would probably have fun like me. However, you also need to have a flair for writing and be willing to have your posts review and corrected. You do not need to be an expert in the field. In fact, I would rather you weren’t and you’d be more like me.. You will be required to write 2/3 posts a week. You do not need prior experience although that is always desirable. The catch is that it’s an unpaid role. For now at least. Tech ‘n’ Life started off 5 weeks ago and has grown enormously. People are coming back two and three times a day for the latest news. We are about to mark our 3,000th visitor. We just exceeded 3000 visitors! Whilst its unpaid, it is very rewarding to watch the stats on you posts and see people become interested in what you bring to the table. End Of Week Review – Thank You Readers

Well, its the end of week four and the end of our first month online. We saw even more growth and hit new peaks.

We also saw a dip in visits.

That was my fault and my fault.

1. I was sick with the flu – Sorry there were so little posts this week

2. The server crashed twice. Because I was sick I didn’t notice. I have notifications set up now in case it happens again.

Here are the stats…

Amazing to have hit 2,331 visits in four weeks. Its great!!
Last Saturday was our busiest day and I didn’t even have a competition running.

Week In Review – Thank You Visitors

Well its the end of the third week. And we just grew even more. Thank you to all the regular visitors and new visitors. Its very encouraging to me to keep writing these articles. This week saw the first Wednesdays Website of the Week which was based on Lifehacker. This will continue. And having looked at the stats for my posts, I realize once again, you are mostly interested in tutorials and how to articles. They will obviously continue, however I will now start a new item called Support Sundays. So every Sunday, you will definitely have a tutorial article on how to fix things with your PC or phone or anything.. If you have any requests let me know and I will cover them first.

Week Three Stats

Hit a total 1485 Visitors A peak in one day of 148 visits 135% Visitor Increase A total of 16 Google Wave Invites were given out. Well done to all those who won one. The last one is yet to go. The article today on the HTC Hero launch caused the biggest spike on my server so far. Many of you were surprised at the mention of Zooloo and Scamville Farmville. End of Week Two – Thank You Readers

Well it has been only two weeks. And the site has had phenomenal growth. At the end this week we hit a total of 861 readers so far. Thank you to all of you. In fact, the only decline in readership was because of two things: One – I went away to Barcelona and wasn’t blogging as much and two – I broke the feed subscriptions…. But hey, thats why you come here huh? To see how I fix everything after breaking it. I hope I will regain my feed subscribers though.

Week 2 Stats

Feed Subscription Problems FIXED!

If you have subscribed to my feeds, you’ll probably have noticed that they werent working. I was aware of this but didnt know how to fix them, simply because I didnt know how i broke them. In short, you must resubscribe to the feed to get it going again. I deleted the old feed and used the exact same url to start the new one, so i am not sure if that beaks things more or less. Please let me know if you experience problems with the feed. If you havent subscribed to my feed, i will shortly be doing a post on feed subscriptions and what the benefits are.

Hey readers – Good news… Instead of the long boring konradwalsh.homeserver.com domain name that we were using temporarily.. we are now using http://tech-n-life.com. Easier huh? The old domain will continue to work just fine, along with RSS feeds, so there is nothing to change. Other news! After just ONE WEEK!! We had a total 518 visitors
