Recently we looked a little at the pending release of the Dell mini 3. Here is its big brother the Mini 5 or possible release name of the Streak. Here is a little more detail from apparently “leaked” documents. Either way there are some pictures to get you motivated.

Current Specs We Know Of

• 5-inch WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen,
• 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash,
• capacitive touch front buttons,
• front-facing VGA camera (for video chatting)
• the 30-pin docking connector
• Colours to choose from
• launch with an Amazon content partnership

So if it does launch with all this loveliness and along with a built Amazon MP3 and eBook store then it is sure to fly. No price or date yet.

I have always maintained my stance on Apple, that I am not an Apple man… Recently, the launch of the iPad got me excited and made me feel, for about 2 hours, that this is the future. But then the comments were made and reality set in and I remembered that this is the iPod and the iPhone all over again.

iPod

See, if there is one this thing Apple do well.. it’s marketing!!! I always disliked the iPod. Yet they sold billions of them. I own three different types. But I hated Apple for it because they claimed enormous battery life and it didn’t exist and then forced all to use their iTunes… not buts!!! Other manufacturers understated battery life and let you do whatever you wanted.. cause it’s yours!!!

This is when I dug my heels in. I said this phone would never sell. I was working in Carphone Warehouse at the time. I meant, it would never sell in Europe. It was made for Americans. Why?

They released a phone that did not do MMS, did not have 3g, had a crap 2.0 mp camera, did not have copy/cut and paste and it was big! And yet the damn thing sold like hot cakes with melted Dairygold butter!!! In Europe, the year prior to the iPhone launch, we had all those missing features in advanced stage.

And here we are again – they release something with so much fanfare that people will go out and buy it and then ask: What The H…?? Where is multitask?? I thought there was a camera on this thing..?!  What do you mean I have to close this app to open another!!???!!

And it will still sell like crazy.. and that’s why you will buy one.. cause everyone else is… Am I wrong?

I am now looking back to Android and the Dell tablet. We’ll see…..

I sincerely hope this is not a sign of the way things are going. This is Dell’s new concept of a PC with no monitor or keyboard. I can appreciate the value or benefit of its portability but does it have to look like a rabbit hole made for Barney? It was designed by Pauline Carlos. Its called the Dell Froot which I assume is a play of fruit since it looks like one.

As you can see from the picture, it has two projectors. One for the screen and one for the keyboard.I haven’t used these new types of keyboards but I can’t imagine they are all that nice to use.

I don’t see the mouse though. If its including, that would be cool. It may have gesture support instead of a mouse.

That’s all there is available on it right now.

We’ve already seen it in China and Brazil, now Dell’s first modern smartphone — the Mini 3 — is headed to the US in the loving arms of AT&T 3G. We expect the specs to remain pretty much the same: 3.5-inch 640×360 display, Bluetooth, 3 megapixel auto-focus camera with flash, microSD, and GPS, though we’ll have to wait to get that confirmed. And from the looks of that pic of a prototype supplied by Direct2Dell, this Android handset will be custom skinned for AT&T. Look for it to hit sometime in the first half of 2010.
